Terry Allan Oakley passed away peacefully on January 8, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born to Elton and Dorlene (Medhurst) Oakley on January 17, 1948 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Terry proudly served his country in the Marine Corp and the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and received the Purple Heart among other awards. Terry was married to Kathleen Gerber Oakley on May 7, 1977 and later divorced. Terry is survived by his son Adam (Ashlie), his grandsons Aidan and Yulian, his daughter Elizabeth, his brother Jess (Suzanne), his sister Lisa, his aunt Suzanne Horton, many nieces/nephews, and his companion Joan Hassan. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bradley. Terry was a fun-loving father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed laughing and teasing people. He was a smooth moving disco dancer in his time. He loved his pets, pocket t-shirts, watching TV and movies, napping, sports cars, hats, and jackets. During his life he was a professional painter. He spent a lot of time serving his fellow veterans in the DAV Honor Guard, the VFW, the DAV, and in VA Hospitals throughout the country. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He will be missed by many. Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects to his family on Saturday, January 12 from 11:00am to 12:30pm in the Relief Society room of the Hawthorne Ward (806 Roosevelt Ave., Salt Lake City). There will be no program or cemetery services held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local veterans organizations.
