Theodore Clay Wylie Bateman

Theodore Wylie Clay Bateman of West Point, Utah, died December 2, 2012 at 12:44 a.m. He was born in Filer, Idaho on May 9, 1926 to Pansy Mignonette Owens and Everett Price Clay. He was adopted by and sealed in the LDS temple to his step-father, Hyrum Adelbert Bateman at the age of 9. Ted served in the Army during World War II from 1944-1946. He married Georgie Gay Bronson November 5, 1947 in the Idaho Falls Temple, and served a mission to the Central States Mission for the LDS Church from December of 1947 to October 1949. After his return, he attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry. While in school, Ted and Georgie started their family, ultimately giving birth to and raising 13 children. Following graduation, Ted worked as the manager for the Detroit Stake Welfare Farm in Merrill, Michigan. In 1964 he became employed with the Agronomy Department of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he worked until he retired. After the death of Georgie in 1999, he married Harriet Woodford and settled in West Point. He is survived by 2 sisters, Sharon Mull and Billie Beal, 11 children, 65 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Wednesday December 5 from 7-9 p.m., and funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday December 6. Both are being held at the West Point Stake Center, 550 N. 2300 W. in West Point. Interment will be at the West Point Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by SereniCare Funeral Home, 4300 Harrison Blvd. Ste. 14, Ogden, Utah 84403.
