Tom Yandell passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with lung cancer on December 20, 2006.
Born April 7, 1948 to Delmar and Josephine Yandell in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi on a golf scholarship, and served three tours in Vietnam with the US Navy. He was an Operations Supervisor for Yellow Transportation for over 20 years, first in Memphis, Tennessee and more recently at the SLC Terminal.
Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, great sense of humor, love of classic cars, but most of all for his love of his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, but leaves his wife of 24 years, Diana Yandell of Sandy. Two children, Chris Yandell and his wife Angela of Lakeland, TN and Allison Greene and her husband, Al of Okinawa, two step-children which he raised and loved just as his very own, Susan Jones and her husband, Clay of Sandy, UT and Chuck Underwood of Boone, NC and four grandchildren, Katie, Emerson, Griffin and Will, as well as his beloved Papillion dog, Lexie. Tom also leaves two brothers, Gene Yandell of Louisville, KY and Bill Yandell of Thomasville, NC.
A memorial service will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, January 13, 2007 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on 3015 East Creek Road in Sandy, UT. A reception and celebration of Tom's life will follow at 8887 Sheffield Way in Sandy.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of donor's choice. The family would like to especially thank the wonderful people at First Choice Hospice who cared for Tom during the last month, especially Jan, Amy, and Ann.
