Tomas Salcido Serna

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Tom Serna. On August 9, 2026, Tom passed away peacefull at his home of 34 years in West Valley City, UTah with his loving wife by his side.

Tom was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Joe and Socorra Serna. He is survived by his father, Joe; wife, Nancy; Brothers, Ronnie (Carol) and Lionel (Angela) Serna; Sister, Susie (Edward) Carillo; sons, Chris (Veronica) and Jacob (Maricella) Serna; stepsons, Steven (Kari) and Ralph Alvillar; grandchildren, Riana and Matthew Serna, Jacob, Arianna, Prisilla (Omar), Jeremiah, and his little shadow, Eli Alvillar. Tom is also survived by three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Socorro.

He was the owner and operator of Serna Trucking for many years, retiring only due to his health. Always wanting to stay busy, he kept a supply of super glue and duct tape in case something needed fixing because he had a talent for repairing or building anything. He loved family gatherings, listening to music, and dancing. After a few Bud Lights, he would entertain us with his singing or a joke and keep us laughing with endless stories about his childhood and the time he spent with his parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, cousins, and baseball teammates. He loved to go fishing, spend weekends at the casino, and, of course, watch his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Thom always looked forward to trips back home to Las Cruces and desperately wanted to make one more journey to see and spend time with his family and friends there, but sadly his declining health prevented him from doing that.

We were so blessed to have the time we had with Tom, and we loved him so much. We feel incomplete and empty being here without him. He left behind a legacy of working hard, helping others, laughing, loving, and creating so many great memories for us to cherish.

A prayer service in Las Cruces will be announced at a later date, as he chose to be cremated.
