An Elect Lady returned home. Vera Lee (Evans) Eddington passed away in Saratoga Springs, Utah County, Utah on October 24 2023 at the age of 93 from natural causes. Vera was born on March 4, 1930 in Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona to Marius Oman Evans and Mary Helena (Huish) Evans. She had many responsibilities early in her life because of the Great Depression. At age 15 her family moved to Murray, Utah. There she met her eternal companion, Delbert Frank Eddington. After high school they each served missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Vera served in the West Central States Mission. Shortly after their missionary service Vera and Delbert were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 12, 1952, and began to build their eternity together. From the time of their wedding, Vera and Delbert made their decisions together with the Lord. They made their first home in Provo, Utah while they both attended BYU. Later Vera and Delbert brought their family to Sandy, Utah where they raised their 11 children and served in the Church and the community for over 50 years.
Vera was exceptionally talented. She had a keen intellect. She was valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She also typed 120 words per minute on a manual typewriter and used this skill to transcribe dictated medical records for several doctors. Vera was a gifted pianist and studied organ under the tutelage of Tabernacle Organist Frank Asper. Inspirational and uplifting music was always found in her home. Countless individuals learned about the Plan of Salvation and felt the influence of the Holy Ghost through Vera’s testimony shared via words and music. The Savior was the center of her life. His restored gospel meant everything to her. She served in leadership positions in Relief Society, Primary and Young Women’s organizations in the Church of Jesus Christ but her singular work was serving her husband and children. In this effort she was peerless. She typed many hundreds of patriarchal blessings, first for her father and later for her husband. She and Delbert served missions together in the Fiji, Suva Mission, the Nebraska, Omaha Mission, and later in the Jordan River Temple. Vera’s testimony and influence have been felt all over the world through her posterity.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, David and John Evans, sons Delbert W. and Dale J. Eddington, son-in-law Mark D. Elliott, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is survived by sons Keith E. (Diana) Eddington, John M. (Suzanne) Eddington, David O. (Shelly) Eddington, Kenneth V. (Sheri) Eddington, daughters Shawna L. (Rick) DeGraw, Marilyn (Lynn) Jensen, Cheryl A. (Gary) Blaylock, Barbara L. (Larry) Jones, Devera K. (Jason) LuBean, Daughters-in-law, Elaine and Devina Eddington, 69 grandchildren, 205 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and brothers Arza and Charles Evans.
The family is profoundly grateful to Elaine and Devera who spent countless hours taking care of Mom with so much love and devotion over the recent months and years. Additionally, the family is very thankful to the Sunset 3rd Ward as well as Cassie and Sierra for their care and love. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Provo Utah Sunset Stake Center, 1560 S 1100 W, Provo, Utah. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Vera has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the General Mission Fund for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
