William "Bill" Norbert Benson

William (Bill) N. Benson,75, of Ogden, UT died Nov.11, 2006 from complications with cancer. Bill was the son of Elmer Leonard Benson and Olga Theresa Lindblom. He was born 19 September, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa.
Surviving is his wife, Diane Benson, in Ogden, UT. Daughters are Teri Armstrong, Debbie Mulvihill; step-children, Richard Harris, Karen Clymens, Philip Harris. Catherine Fender; and 18 grandchildren. Sister, Helen Sakrison and brother, Richard Benson. Bill's first wife Carole Holland, divorced in 1969.
Preceded in death by his son, Douglas Benson who died at the age of 6.
Bill graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA and Augustana Lutheran College in Rock Island, IL. He had served with the US Navy. He had a Business Degree; his main profession was in sales; he had worked for Firestone Co., Interlake Steel, Inc., and was most recently a sales agent with Colonial Supplemental Insurance.
Bill was an outstanding athlete at Augustana College in track and football. He earned a Major Letter in Varsity Sports and was a member of the Tribe of Vikings and Lettermen's Club. He was on the All Star-All Conference Football Team and nominated as The Player's Choice and voted most valuable player at Augustana College. He was inducted February 21, 1981 as a member of Augustana College Alumni Tribe of Vikings Hall of Honor which is a memorial to outstanding athletes who through their athletic achievements and contributions have brought honor to themselves and Augustana College. He also excelled in golf and tennis.
Bill was converted to the LDS Church while residing in Phoenix, AZ in 1996. He and Diane were sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple in 1997 for time and all eternity. At the time of his death he was a High Priest in the Lorin Farr 6th ward in Lorin Farr Stake.
He and Diane have resided in Eugene, OR; Phoenix, AZ; Fernley, NV and currently, Ogden, UT. They met after each had divorced in 1969, in Walnut Creek, CA. They have been married for 36 years.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at the Lorin Farr 6th Ward Chapel, 770 15th Street, Ogden, Utah with a viewing prior to services at 10 am. Interment at the Ogden City Cemetery,
