Obituary

Bonnie Ellen Martinsen was born in Murray, Utah on January 10, 1943.  Her proud parents were Melvin LeRoy Johnston and Rachel Ure.  On May 9, 1961, she was married in Anchorage, Alaska to James Martinsen and the marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.  Later in life she graduated with high honors from Weber State University.  She received a Batchelor of Education degree with an emphasis in math.  She lettered in Band and was always first or second chair playing the saxophone.  

Bonnie spent her life as an ingenious mother and an elementary school teacher.    She received a Teacher of the Year award as well as a Young Womanhood Award while serving with the Mia Maids.

Bonnie loved and lived the Gospel of Jesus Christ and followed his example of service all of her life including 4 LDS missions (Cypress, Philippines, Ogden Temple and the cannery).  She enjoyed and excelled at cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, silk punch art and making all feel loved and welcomed.  She loved to travel and visited many places around the world.

Bonnie and James had 9 children: Sheri Ann Raffield, Cindy Mae Kane, Sandy Lee Cawley, Shelleen Renae Wu, Karen Rachel Policeno, Jodi Ellen Judkins, Amy Dawn Estella Woolsten, Kyrsti Rae Anderson and Daniel James Martinsen.  And she had a 60-year marriage to James Martinsen.

Her siblings were Don Pintar (Francine), Eddie Johnston (Ida), Barbara Siddle (J.) and Bill Johnston (Gina).  She had 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the Glen Eagle 1st Ward, 3426 West Augusta Drive in Syracuse, Utah.  Services start at 11:00 am.  A viewing will be held at the same location from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.  Burial will be at the Syracuse City Cemetery.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Rocky Mountain Hospice and Care facility and her physician Dr. Scott Bishop.
